Audio of Haiti Talk in Cork

Approximately 40 people packed in Solidarity Books in Cork to hear Elsie Haas (a Haitian film-maker and journalist, based in Paris) and Jose Antonio Gutierrez (of the Latin American Solidarity Centre in Dublin) talk about the political and economic history of Haiti and how the recent US intervention in the country, following the earthquake, is just a continuation of the UN-led occupation since 2004, following on from 200 years of occupations and imperialism.

Protest outside German Embassy in Solidarity with FAU - Dublin Jan 29th

Members of WSM and Organise gathered on a bright afternoon light of a cold Janaury day, in the leafy surburbs of Booterstown, Dublin, outside the German Embassy to protest recent Berlin District Court Decision to stop the Free Workers Union (FAU - Freie Arbeiterinnen- und Arbeiter-Union) from being able to call itself a Union.

Dublin: Picket of Shell HQ in solidarity with jailed fisherman

Dublin Shell To Sea will be holding a public demonstration against the jailing of Pat "The Chief" O'Donnell . We encourage as many of our supporters to come along on Tues and let Shell know we will continue our campaign against the theft of our natural resources. Please spread the word and bring as many people as you can.

Towards an anarchist history of the Chinese revolution

Outside of a few events including the Long March and the Shanghai commune the development of the Chinese revolution is relatively unknown on the western left in comparison with the revolutions in Russia in 1917, Spain in 1936 or even the Paris spring of 1968. Those sections of that left influenced by or proclaiming themselves to be Maoist haven't helped that situation much. Their histories have tended towards simple tales focusing on the role of one man and collapsed a 100-year history of revolution into the events important to him.

WSM take part in European anarchist conference

Over the weekend of February 5th the Workers Solidarity Movement sent delegates to Paris to take place in a European conference of the groups involved in Anarkismo.net. Anarkismo.net is a multi-lingual news and analysis site made up of 31 organisations around the world who agree with the Anarkismo.net editorial statement*. WSM members were involved in founding this project almost five years ago, this was the first formal meeting of some of the groups involved.

Protests at Shell HQ against jailing of fisherman Pat O'Donnell

Over 50 Shell to Sea campaigners gathered at the Shell head quarters in Leeson street Dublin Tuesday evening to protest at the jailing of 52 year old Erris fisherman Pat O'Donnell for resisting Shell's experimental gas pipeline. Pat received a seven month sentence which has the added benefit for Shell of taking his boat off of Broadhaven Bay for the period they need to carry out major underwater construction work and repairs. Pat has twice previously been arrested and held without charge when Shell has needed to carry out work in the bay.

Dublin: Liberties Shell to Sea leafletting 12 midday

With Erris fisherman Pat O'Donnell in jail for 7 months for resisting Shell the 1st May branch of the WSM are organising a mass distribution of the Shell to Sea 'All the facts' leaflet door to door around the Liberties this Saturday. We are meeting up at 12 middy sharp outside NCAD on Thomas street and planning to head to the rally in solidarity with Pat at the GPO at 14.00 after the leafletting so if you able to run up at 12 and help please do. On the suicide plane attack on the IRS offices in Austin

Joe Stack recently committed suicide by crashing an airplane into the IRS offices in Austin, Texas. He left a manifesto describing the long path which had finally led him to this decision.

ACTA and Intellectual Property

The ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) is a trade agreement being negotiated by the Obama administration through the United States Office of the Trade Representative. The trade agreement is particularly interesting on a number of points.

US Troops out of Haiti - Picket of US Embassy
