Farah Azadi who lived in Damascus, Syria from December 2005 until war broke out in Lebanon in the summer of 2006 will lead off a discussion on Syria, next Wednesday evening 9 October in Seomra Spraoi at 20.30.
Seomra Spraoi, 10 Belveder Court
Wednesday, 9 October 2013 20:30 until 22:00
Farah, who is the WSM international secretary, will lead the discussion by outlining the current crisis in Syria; the role the uprising in Syria plays in larger geo-political issues in the region inclusive of the shadow of the Iraq war, and democratic possibilities emerging from the Arab Spring; and finally how tangible links of solidarity can be built between Syria and concerned people the world over.
Farah is also writing a PhD on issues related to gender rights in the Islamic world in the Department of Near and Middle East Studies, TCD.
As we are hoping for the evening to be a discussion, we are encouraging others to come with questions and contributions of their own on the situation in Syria.
