Madeline Albright egged by Czech anarchists

Date:

ON MARCH 6TH two Czech revolutionary anarchists, members of the Solidarita organisation, attacked US State Secretary Madeleine Albright, with eggs to protest against capitalist globalisation driven by transnational financial and trade institutions dominated by US imperialism (IMF, World Bank, World Trade Organisation). In the Czech Republic widespread redundancies have been the result.

Now they face a threat of two years imprisonment and/or a very large fine. They will also have to pay for legal costs, which can reach several tens of thousands of Czech Crowns (several thousands of US dollars).

When Milan N. and Jindrich L. egged Albright she was on an official visit to the Czech Republic; just a few days after media speculation that she was going to run in the next Czech presidential elections.

Many of the rich were enthusiastic about this information and expressed their support for her potential candidature. But not so the Czech working class, angry about destruction of the economy by Western capital.

The anarchists said "this action was a protest against continuing attacks on the Czech working class, which is more and more hit by the effects of the capitalist globalisation - the form of imperialism at the end of the second millennium.

It was a symbolic act of revolutionary anarchist resistance. [It was also] a symbolic act of revolutionary anarchist solidarity with suffering workers, working peasants and the poor of Iraq, Cuba, Yugoslavia and Kosovo. It is they who are hit by imperialist sanctions and wars, not their murderous local rulers."

The state prosecutor is demanding a jail term. The anarchists are making no apology.

Give up?

It's the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same crowd that has set itself up as the world's policeman!
