Mayfield meeting pledges to fight Household Tax

Date:

A meeting in St.Joesphs' Community Centre in Mayfield, Cork, on Monday night, pledged determined opposition to the coming household tax.  The meeting was addressed by campaign members Dave Keating and James McBarron who outlined the reasons for opposition and the plan to organise in every community in a mass non payment campaign.

When the meeting was opened to the floor, there was an outpouring of anger, determination and a few personal stories of how hard people are finding things now even before the introduction of this new tax.

People signed up to the campaign and thus begins the process in yet another community to build the infrastructure that will insure a succesful non payment campaign. Besides Mayfield, Cork city has seen meetings in Ballyphehane, Greenmount, Ballyvolane and Mahon with one set for Farranree on Wednesday and others being organised for Bishopstown, Ballinlough and Gurranabraher before Xmas.  In the county Cobh has had a successful meeting and others are being prepared for Ballincollig, Dunmanway and Skibbereen.
