Obituary for Dutch anarchist Karl Kreuger

The WSM were greatly saddened to hear of the death of Dutch anarchist Karl Max Kreuger from The Hague. Karl used to sell Workers Solidarity in Holland and many of us also remember him from the annual Anarchist Book Fair in London. We send our sincerest sympathy to his family, friends and comrades.

The following is reprinted from issue one of Tegen de Stroom, a new Dutch libertarian socialist magazine."The ideal of classless society has lost one of its sincere fighters: Anarchist comrade, Karl Max from Den Haag... We, the writers of Tegen de Stroom, met Karl during the winter days of the year 1996, when we were in the asylum seekers centre in Den Haag. Some political differences did not prevent us to develop a sincere friendship with each other. And, we are proud to express that Karl had a considerable impact over political views of some of us, with his libertarian thoughts. We are sad that Karl didn't see the first issue of our paper. We will never forget this sympathetic Anarchist comrade... "

Around 200 friends and comrades accompanied Karl by bike on his last journey. The coffin, embellished with children's drawings and last greetings of friends, was transported from The Hague squatters' bulwark De Blaue Aanslag through the city centre to the crematorium. A red van followed the black-covered carrier cycle. Later that day the funeral procession walked along the beach - in the spirit of nature lover Karl...
